Hike
Access to the take-off is made easier by a 4x4 track, ensuring a passable path year-round.
The climb isn’t exactly charming, but it gets the job done — and hey, the view is still incredible…
Take-offs
Its nice, convex grassy slope offers an easy launch, even for beginners.
In tricky weather, take-off conditions are often more favorable here than on other sites.
Other take-off options near Varan are available, such as the ridge above the Varan chalets or the Verdun site, facing west and located 80 m above the Varan launch.
The flight
This site is popular for its easy access and the ease of finding thermals.
A strong thermal almost always forms along the cliffs below the launch and at the base of the Barmerousse peak.
It’s also valued for relaxed, scenic flights and as an alternative to the crowds at Plaine-Joux on busy days.
