Chedde
Atterro
Chedde is the closest landing zone to Plaine-Joux.
It’s a medium-sized field, bordered by obstacles, and it can get a bit turbulent in thermal conditions. Still, it’s perfectly suitable for beginners when the air is calm.
Landing approach
The landing is approached with a U-shaped pattern:
- right-hand circuit in southerly winds,
- left-hand circuit in westerly winds.
Altitude is lost above zone A on the map above. The main landing field is B; C is the “backup” field.
The landowner is a farmer, and sometimes we have to share the field with his cows. There’s always a fence separating them from the landing area, but the usable field can occasionally be much smaller than usual. When too much of the main field is allocated to the cows, you’ll need to land in the backup field.
To avoid any surprises, don’t forget to check the landing zone before every flight!
Rules
- Hang gliders are not allowed to land here for safety reasons (field too small); they must land at Marlioz.
- Avoid low overflights of houses around the field; landing circuits (U-patterns) should stay along the inner edge of the field.
- The landing area is not very large — collapse your wing immediately after landing rather than moving to the packing area with the wing overhead, so as not to obstruct incoming pilots.
- Public toilets are 50 m away (see map); do not relieve yourself on a neighbor’s hedge!
- For parking, prefer spots to the west of the field (under the right-hand downwind leg of the U-pattern) and leave the southern spots (along the packing area) free for shuttles that don’t stay long.
