Marlioz
Landing
Marlioz (aka "Batistock") is Passy’s big landing zone. It’s close to Varan, Frioland, and—when conditions allow—from Plaine-Joux. It’s much more comfortable than Chedde: less turbulent and open on three sides.
For hang gliders, it’s the only possible landing option.
Landing approach
The landing is approached with a left-hand U-shaped pattern (PTU). The valley breeze almost always comes from the southwest. Be aware that in the afternoon it’s often quite strong!
Altitude is lost above zone A on the map above. The official landing field (which is actually quite small) is in zone B; the packing area is on the field, along the road.
The fields surrounding the main landing area are usually hay meadows, so avoid landing — and especially ground handling — outside the designated field to keep good relations with the landowner.
Rules
- This landing is great for practicing ground handling, but make sure to collapse your wing when other pilots are on final approach so you don’t get in their way.
- Parking along the road bordering the field is prohibited — it’s a bike path. Please park at Parvis des Fiz (2 minutes by car, 10 minutes on foot); that’s the way it is!
- The field looks huge from above, but the usable area is much smaller (see map) and marked by windsocks. Please respect the crops and avoid ground handling or landing outside the designated area.
