Barmerousse
Hike & fly launch
Looking for a breathtaking panorama? Head to Barmerousse! Overlooking the valley beneath the Varan peaks, this site offers an incredible view of Mont-Blanc.
Hike
After the Varan chalets, where you can refill your water bottle, head straight north, up the steep slope, to the Barmerousse pass. Beyond the pass, you’ll need to leave the trail and descend toward the Barmerousse peak to reach a small meadow.
This hike is only feasible once the snow has melted in the valley, usually from mid-May onward.
The take-off
Depending on conditions, you’ll have a choice of three launch orientations: the most commonly used faces west. You can also find one facing east (above the Combe d’Embovi) and another southwest just past the chimney. Enjoy the view before you launch!
The flight
This is mountain flying at its best! As soon as you leave the launch, you’re treated to stunning views between the Aravis and the Mont-Blanc massif, not to mention the cliffs right below your feet — a truly exhilarating moment in the air!
In autumn, when the lower layers have stabilized, launching from Barmerousse makes it easy to pick up thermals along the cliffs.
Landings
You’ll have plenty of options thanks to the altitude you gain — that’s the perk of big hike-and-fly days 🙂
You can land at Marlioz, Chedde or Passy lake. Be aware that the lake landing is regulated and only authorized from October 1st to March 31st. Outside these dates, the fields are cultivated and the landing is therefore closed.
